What would it take to make you thrilled at work?
One of the exercises I do with my career coaching clients, who are seriously considering a departure from their current employer, is to make a list titled, “What it would take to keep me.” The lists always surprise me because other than a few sarcastic remarks–no one lists anything too unreasonable.
Let’s tweak the question for you in your current role.
So, what would it take for you to be thrilled to come to work each day?
Here are a few primer questions to get you started:
- Is there a task that you would do more often? Less?
- Is there a task/project that you would never do again if given the choice?
- What would your ideal hours be if given the choice?
- What strengths are not being exploited in your current position?
- What income do you deserve for the work you are doing?
- If you were going to take-on a project at work—one that would have a long term benefit to the company—what would that project be?
Take a few minutes to make your list.
