Read What You Love and Forget the Rest

 In Team building, Time Management

Most people I meet wish they had more time to read. The secret to reading more is not to feel bad or try to discipline yourself into doing it. Instead set a new policy that you only read what you love. Reading what you love makes you feel good and guess what feeling good causes? You guessed it—more reading.

Here is the list of the books I read in 2013 and which ones I LOVED.

Enjoy!

2013 Reading List

The Five Love Languages– by Gary D Chapman
LOVED IT!  I have been hearing about this book for years. It’s remarkable and has a test at the back for you and your partner. A little religious at the end—heads up—but very helpful.

Co-Active Coaching  by Karen Kimsey-House , Henry Kimsey-House , Phillip Sandahl  , Laura Whitworth
Didn’t Love. It’s accountability coaching at its best but I am not a fan of accountability coaching.

The Gifts of Imperfection – by Brene Brown
LOVED IT! If you are working on yourself in any category read this book. WOW!

The Pumpkin Plan: A Simple Strategy to Grow a Remarkable Business in Any Field  by Mike Michalowicz
LOVED IT!  Should be mandatory reading for entrepreneurs. And funny too. Mike is a great guy.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
LOVED IT!  Yes, yes it’s my third or fourth time reading it. Clearly, I love it.

How Will You Measure Your Life? by Clayton M. Christensen
Didn’t Love. I was as surprised as anyone that I did not love this book. I liked it, but felt it was too preachy on the personal stuff.

The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
LOVED IT!  Read it because my son was reading it in class. A classic.

Why Employees Are Always A Bad Idea by Chuck Blakeman
LOVED IT! -Chuck is my mentor and this is an amazing book for leaders. Turns leadership on its ear.

What I Know Now: Letters to My Younger Self by Ellyn Spragins
LOVED IT!  I also attended a retreat by the same name-wow. Life changing stuff.

Iconoclast: A Neuroscientist Reveals How to Think Differently  by Gregory Berns Ph.D.
LOVED IT! I wish I were a neuroscientist as I could have retained more of the technical stuff but it was a great read.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia
LIKED IT! Like twilight but different.

Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife by Eben Alexander III M.D.
LIKED IT! I read this because EVERYONE was talking about it. Pretty compelling story of a near death experience. Captivating for me.

Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers by Anne Lamott
LOVED IT! She is all that and a bag of chips for me. Love her.

Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
LOVED IT! My favorite fiction of the year. Wow. Who writes that well? What a story!

The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy by Jon Gordon
LIKED IT!  A quick reminder for leaders on the importance of your thoughts.
