The Quickest Way to Brighten Your Perspective

 In Career Change

Man reading in a chairWould you like a quick and effective remedy to feeling overwhelmed and under pressure? I use a remedy that works in under two hours and will have you not only psyched up for the work you face but also changing your whole approach to life. Ready? Here it is…. Read a business book!

No kidding! There are a number of excellent, not-too-long business books out there, and within them the possibility of a totally different perspective on work, life and the future. But don’t just buy the book. For the magic to work the trick is to actually read it. Many people try to apply their leisure reading habits to the business reading category (like reading before bed) and either fall asleep or find they are never really in the mood. Instead, take the book to a quiet breakfast spot or set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes and just read (sitting up). Be sure to have a pen or highlighter handy so that you can underline key points which will also help you retain the material and stay more focused.

And don’t substitute the business book for your favorite type of leisure reading. Read them both, but keep the business book as a separate entity. In only 8 sessions of 15 minutes-or better yet, two one-hour sessions-you can be finished and you will not only feel better, but you will be better for it. The best part is that your brain will give you a lot more ideas to use on tackling that overwhelming pressure you were facing.

My Top Picks:

The Dream Manager by Matthew Kelly- A purpose aligning parable for managers and CEOs.

Blink! by Malcolm Gladwell- Inspiring stories and research about our thinking process discussed in a way only Gladwell can do.

The One Minute Salesperson by Spencer Johnson- Relationship selling parable with keys many of us had forgotten but still desperately need to apply.

StrengthsFinders 2.0 by Tom Rath- This book contains a code for the Clifton StrengthsFinder profile which you will take on line. Gallup researched material and a really good profile.

“That is a good book which is opened with expectation and closed in profit.”
